Some things about Kal Weber...

Vorbemerkung:
Having become a Chris-fan, this led naturally to an interest in the man behind the character - Kal Weber. Despite spending a great deal of time searching the Internet for more background on him, there seemed to be little available - so I thought I would go to the source! And being the lovely man he is, Kal was kind enough to provide me with his current bio and photo for Renate to use on her site.
Apart from the up-date on his current projects - and the tantalising mention of a potential second series of The New Professionals going into production at the end of this year - I was extremely impressed at all the different areas of the industry he had explored in his (relatively) short career. Not just acting, but photography, cinematography, writing and production as well. All of this augurs well for his future success - which makes me extremely happy, because that means he should be on a screen somewhere for me to watch for years to come.

KAL WEBER:

bio

Kal Weber started making short films in the Seventh Grade and first attended an acting workshop at the famous Second City in Toronto during his final year of High School.

He later studied cinematography in the U.S. with Oscar-winning DP Billy Williams, BSC (The Exorcist, A Passage to India, On Golden Pond) and worked for four years as a fashion photographer in Paris (where he studied acting with Stella Adler) and Toronto before moving to London to act in 1991.

Kal landed his first acting job with director Ken Loach, then trained with various teachers before studying drama and directing at the School of the Science of Acting for two years.

He was featured in Iain Softley’s Hackers for MGM and Nervous Energy for the BBC with Alfred Molina, and made guest-starring appearances in Taggart and Soldier, Soldier for ITV.

He then played a leading role in the controversial UK premiere of Whale Riding Weather at The Drill Hall and co-produced and performed a sell-out run of A Hatful of Rain for the Wire Group Theatre Co. with co-founder Arie Verveen (The Thin Red Line).

Kal was filming The Painted Lady in London and New York with Helen Mirren , Iain Glenn and Franco Nero when he was offered the leading role of Chris Keel in CI5: The New Professionals, co-starring Edward Woodward, OBE.

The critically-praised 13 x 1hr series has since aired in over forty-seven countries world wide, with plans afoot for a second season to commence production in December 2000 throughout South Africa, Canada and the UK.

Kal most recently portrayed American explorer and statesman Meriweather Lewis in the BBC’s Lewis and Clark, to be aired later this year.

He formally set up Ironwood Pictures Ltd. In August 1999 and is currently developing a 26 x 1hr crime thriller/drama series for the U.S. through MEDIA’s Pilot program, two feature film projects for theatrical release, and The Gift, his first 35mm short film as a writer-director.

Kal lives in London and Los Angeles.
